MPBA “Reopening Baseball Plan”
Submitted By Doug Beckett on Friday, May 28, 2021
Please note that the timelines below are subject to guidelines established by the Provincial Government and are subject to change. Currently the leaders of various outdoor youth sports organizations are lobbying the government to modify the existing timelines and restraints so that organizations like MPBA can provide the best possible experience for the youth of our community.

Dear MPBA families: We thank you all for your patience as we try to maneuver through this pandemic. With the arrival of the Province’s new three-step Roadmap for Reopening the Province and guidelines set out by Baseball Ontario, your executive has developed the following schedule for implementing our 2021 season.

STEP ONE- sometime the week of June 14th(date tbd)and will include:

  • skills development for those who identified they would try out for 9U, 11U and 13U select teams (If not registered as a select player, please contact [email protected] to be added to the select tryout list.)

  • maximum of 10 individuals on a field at one time (this number includes coaching staff)

  • no spectators

  • The House League program requires a significant number of volunteers to provide the best experience for the players and due to the capacity limits per team, number of available fields, we are not able to offer a program for those divisions until Step Two.

STEP TWO-earliest date to move to Step 2 is July 5th, at least 21 days after step one is implemented (date tbd) and will include:

  • addition of practices for all house league divisions from 6U up to and including 18U

  • practices for all select team 9U, 11U and 13U

  • maximum of 25 people on a field at one time (this number includes coaching staff)

  • whether the above number includes spectators is still to be confirmed

STEP THREE- earliest date to move to Step 3 is July 26, at least 21 days after step two is implemented (date tbd) and will include:

  • scrimmages and games will be allowed for all teams

  • we anticipate that we will still be limited to leagues of 50 players (requiring “bubbles” with only two or three other teams, but this is still to be confirmed)

We will continue to accept registrations up until the end of Step 1. In some divisions waiting lists have been created with the hope of adding a second house league team. Our ability to add second teams will depend on numbers registered and on volunteer coaches.

As we announced back in April, you have until the first field practice to submit your $50.00 deposit. A league schedule will be published, total fees will be calculated and total payment (minus deposit) will now be due the first week of the schedule (when we enter step three).

We know this is not the announcement we were hoping for. If you have paid your deposit and would like to withdraw from the program and request a refund please email [email protected]

Again, thank you and don’t hesitate to reach out to any executive staff if you have any questions.

Stay safe.
